This study of early mankind begins with Australopithecus and the discoveries of Dr.Donald Johanson and continues through to the arrival of Cro Magnon. There is a wonderful array of artifact reproductions, from a fire making hearth and stick to flintknapped spearheads, a sewing kit and cordage making kit and a sampling of stoneage art materials that would make early cave painters envious. Detailed map work helps students trace the earliest fossil finds in Africa to the migration patterns of Homo Erectus and finally to the peopling of the earth. The literature selection that accompanies this study is The Boy of the Painted Cave by Justin Denzel. Again the art materials seem ready made for the young, clubfooted hero of this story.
